On Monday, September 22nd – KAC Media attended KCCD's (Korean Churches for Community Development) Faith and Community Leadership Summit titled, 'Wake Up Call! Asian American Youth at Risk. Some of the speakers included Hyepin Im (Founder of KCCD), Jim McDonnell (Chief of Staff LAPD), Rev. John Jong Dai Park (Executive Director of Council of Churches Community Partnership Inititative), Margaret Lee (LA County Department of Mental Health), Sonny Kang (Volunteer Teacher at Green Pastures Academy), Larry Frank (Deputy Mayor, Office of LA City Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa), Paul "PK" Kim (Comedian and Executive Director, Kollaboration), and Kelly Jones (Field Coordinator, School of Mental Health, LAUSD).
KAC Media has been a CEY 'Community Empowering Youth' partner with KCCD since May of 2008.Since then, we have served over 1,600 youth through our programs/events and have several youth interns volunteering as writers, hosts, and production assistants! KCCD recently announced its contest for promotional video submissions that had highlighted the theme of 'Asian American Youth at Risk' by bringing more awareness about the growing number of Asian Gangs, and rising rates in depression, mental illnesses, and suicide amongst Asian youth – and ways to help prevent and counteract those statistics. KAC Media staff and youth interns worked together to develop an idea, write, direct, produce, and edit this 3 minute promotional video just in time for submission to the contest. The winner was announced at the Summit – and a nervous and excited crew of KAC Media staff was elated to find out that we were announced the winner of the contest and the recipients of a brand new Macbook Laptop for our office! This is the first contest we have entered and the first we have won! We believe that this is just one of many testimonies to come - of God's goodness and provision for KAC Media. While we've been working with no budget for the past 5 months – we look forward to your support, so that we can continue to forge the way for Korean American Christians in the media, while continuing to build bridges between the generations, churches, communities, and business partners! Thank you KCCD and our CEY Partners: All Peoples Christian Center, Our Savior Center, Kollaboration, Bresee Foundation, Step Off Ministry, Korean American Coalition, Project Rytmo, Asian Youth Center, Create Now!, and Pilipino Workers Center.
