ImageAccording to a recent (March 2008) online Harris poll, America’s top book of 2008 turns out to be the Bible. The survey was done among 2500 US adults with ages ranging from the Echo Boomers Group (ages 18-31) to the Matures (ages 63 and older). The poll showed that preferences varied depending not only on age, but on gender, US regions, educational levels, and race.

 A thoughtful and honest book, Passion and Purity traces back to Elisabeth Elliot’s relationship under God’s provision. Elliot shares her love story with readers so candidly, it’s difficult to put the book down. With biblical relevance to what God wants in our passionate relationships is extremely radical from a worldly perspective. However, Elliot’s combination of her personal accounts and God’s will in our lives illustrate a pure love we long for.

ImageIn the parable of the sower, Jesus commended those whose faith was rooted firmly in soil. In The Poisonwood Bible, Barbara Kingsolver reveals a potential flaw in those whose faith are firmly rooted- arrogance and the inability to accept others. Due to the predominant effects of stubborn pride in the novel, all characters eventually abandon Christianity, a reflection of Kingsolver's personal beliefs. However, embedded in her message, which, at first glances seems like a attack on Christianity, is a message of acceptance for everyone to learn.
