According to a recent (March 2008) online Harris poll, America’s top book of 2008 turns out to be the Bible. The survey was done among 2500 US adults with ages ranging from the Echo Boomers Group (ages 18-31) to the Matures (ages 63 and older). The poll showed that preferences varied depending not only on age, but on gender, US regions, educational levels, and race.
The only group where preferences were similar across the board was
amongst political groups – Democrats, Independents, and Republicans all
named the Bible and Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind their top
two books respectively. In reference to the polls according to race,
Whites and Hispanics chose Gone with the Wind as their second choice
while African Americans favored Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons. We’d
like to conduct a future poll among Korean Americans to see where their
reading interest is as well as where the Bible would rank within their
top ten list.
