I Dare You...

Image"He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done." Proverbs 19:17

I have a dare for you.

ImageI dare you to volunteer at at least one charity this year.

The summer season is all about giving. Sure, it's not as exciting as scrounging at the local mall for the hottest deals, nor is as fun as spending quality time with friends and family. However, shopping simply depletes the wallet and spending quality time every day of the week can be potentially exhausting.

ImageVolunteering, on the other hand, is simply amazing. Here are reasons why:

   1.   You spend ZERO dollars. [Not including gas of course, but carpooling and public transportation are always options]

   2.   You meet new people. Granted you will not be the only philanthropist there. Meet and get to know new volunteers or even the people you are helping. It's a great social opportunity for those feeling especially lonely or for those who just want to have a good time.

   3.   You'll feel great, ecstatic, and fulfilled. I guarantee you the majority of people you will encounter will not only be extremely grateful but exuberant because you showed up. The common 'thank you', the simple smile, and the occasional life story conversation- think of these as your reward. You'll go home knowing you made someone's day.

ImageSo I challenge you to take a day off your relaxation week. I challenge you to remember Jesus' example by following in his mission to help the needy. I challenge you to embrace what this principal is all about.
