KAC Media held its first band competition and showcase fundraiser titled Creative Juice Night on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at New Hope LA/Olympic Presbyterian Church. The success of the night was not from the 29 competing participants, or our 200 plus attendees, or even the $1700 and counting the organization raised. Rather, the success was the community that came together to make this event happen and to bring awareness to the impact of media in today’s culture, especially in regards to faith.
Emcees, Pastor Randy Choi and actress and model Arden Cho, opened up the night with a message that let the youth know that they had the tools to be empowered to change the world, especially in this era of new media. Arden and Pastor Randy award another raffle prize winner
From there, the night kicked off with seven competing acts ranging from a solo performance in the rock genre to a rap group performance in Korean. In between acts, the emcees gave away raffle prizes, such as a FarEast movement signed CD/DVD, a Samsung 4GB mp3 player, a Tatum Jones CD, and many other t-shirts and CDs thanks to the raffle sponsors (Vaughn Thompson Jr., My Ninja!, Rookie, FR*A, Timeless, Flatback, Kallusive, and Faithworks). Audience members were also given the opportunity to purchase products from our three booth sponsors, Rookie, My Ninja!, and XS Energy.
After the competing portion was over, three of our guest judges (Jennifer Chung, Mia Kim, and Paul “PK” Kim) performed. Following the acts were the competition results. Results were delayed as the judges had difficulty in deciding a single grand prize winner, since all of the competing acts were quite good. In the end, Clara and the band won and while being awarded the trophy, Clara gave a heart-warming speech thanking her friends, family, and KAC Media for giving her the opportunity to use the talent that God gave her.
Grand prize winner, Clara Chung and Band For KAC Media, Creative Juice Night was used as an opportunity to fulfill more than just a single goal. Along with raising funds, the event proved to be an entire process of developing partnerships with organizations such as World Vision, The Asian American Drug Abuse Program, and Bresee. KAC Media was also able to meet and connect with our guest judges, music artist Mia Kim, YouTube partner Jennifer Chung, American Idol Season 6 contestant Paul “PK” Kim, Team Millennia’s co-captain David Yi, and comedian Anjelah Johnson.
Everyone who attended was a huge asset to the outcome of this event. The KAC Media staff would like to thank our booth sponsors, raffle prize sponsors, the competing participants, the attendees, and especially our own staff.
