America the Great, spins around the holiday season with skyrocket sales and consumer fixes. It’s only the first week of November and department stores are already paying tribute to “Have Yourself a Merry Christmas.”
Saleswomen are ready and ruthless to promote the “This Just-In” winter lines, whereas yesterday’s Halloween costumes are sadly sitting on the clearance rack.
Does this image draw anything close to how much we consume? It’s a little whimsical tale on how fast items are downtrodden and worthless seasons pass.
With the economy being in a slump, one suggestion for delight this holiday is “conservation.” You ask, “Will conservation make children happy? Will conservation make me happy?”
Analysts say, “a good budget should leave you feeling happier about your money and, by extension of yourself.”
Some tips on saving for the holidays:
1. Do you need all those Christmas lights? Instead try decorating with wreaths and festive ribbons!
2. Instead of giving a gift to every single family member, try Secret Santa amongst your family! It will be surprisingly fun and keep a good balance for the holidays.
3. Gift wrapping can become costly. Try being creative and make your own with tissue paper, brown paper bag, and ribbons.
4. Cut out unnecessary costs on items that won’t last more than a season. Often, this applies to toys and games for children, however, can apply to adult techies.
5. For ladies, sometimes we have one too many of the same things. Conserve by reevaluating what you want this year.
Now, these are not remedies to your financial situation, but can help reduce some expenditure for the holidays. You may even have your own plan on budgeting and that’s a start on building your economic cushion for the next year to come. It’s always a good reminder that it’s Christ’s day and more than the ruckus of all the season’s tides.
