What do you feel when you hear the word ACT?
The junior chuckled a nervous laugh, scratched his head, and uttered the word “fear.”
The ACT, a college preparation exam, is a source of great anxiety and tension to high school students around the nation. In the eyes of high school teens, these college preparation tests are the difference between getting into an Ivy League and becoming a lifetime McDonalds worker (perhaps not that extreme but you get my point).
On March 24th, Maps4College held an ACT Testing and College Preparation in Fullerton, California. The purpose: to relive tensions regarding college admissions and dispel ACT misconceptions. Dozens of high school teens along with their flustered parents were in attendance.
Guest speaker Efrain Mercado touched on topics like the difference between the SAT and ACT, how to prepare for college, and whether or not to invest in test preparation classes.
Mercado is a consultant for ACT, Inc. and has worked with influential test prep companies like the Princeton Review.
Sarai Koo, founder and CEO, created Maps4College with the intent of providing a “comprehensive program for students of all ages, assisting them to succeed in school, college, and life.” She designs her program around the acronym S.P.I.C.E.S. S for spiritual. P for physical. I for interpersonal. C for cognitive. E for emotional, and S for social.
Koo’s holistic approach to students’ academic success is not only logical, but highly effective. For more information about Koo’s organization, visit www.Maps4College.org.
