Please Click Here to Register! As part of KCCD’s Communities Empowering Youth Initiative, Korean Churches for Community Development and our 10 partner youth organizations will be hosting the Asian American Youth STFU “Speaking Truth for Unity” Summit – Empowered to Be the Change on Monday, August 31, 2009 at The California Endowment on 1000 North Alameda Street, Los Angeles, California. Over 300 Asian American (AA) youth and over 100 AA community youth leaders are expected to attend! In addition, celebrity Asian American leaders will be participating as speakers.
The STFU Summit is a follow up to our last year’s highly successful
summit, Wake Up Call! Asian American Youth at Risk, Faith and Community
Leadership Summit, which convened over 120 key leaders impacting Asian
American youth. This historic summit supported by the Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Services Administration, brought together pastors,
parents, government officials, community leaders, and other
stakeholders to address challenges facing Asian American youth in the
areas of gangs, drugs, mental health, delinquency, bullying, and
academic pressure.
This year, building on the success and momentum of Wake Up Call!, KCCD
will be bringing together hundreds of at-risk Asian American youth and
give them a place to discuss their challenges, be inspired by
influential Asian American speakers, and engage in creative and
practical workshops that will equip and empower them to be agents of
change in their home, community and nation. Workshops designed to
connect their interests with creative outlets and service and
leadership opportunities will allow youth to acquire important
practical resources, get plugged in to youth community organizations,
and communicate their hopes and fears to elected officials, community
leaders, and the media. In addition, we will be also inviting key
leaders from government agencies, churches, non-profit, and private
sector organizations to engage with the participate in the conference.
