Hundreds of Young Nak church members, friends, families, and strangers were brought together on the evening of August 10th at the LIVE concert in the Young Nak Amphitheater- enjoying a night blended with fellowship, festivities, and lively music. Performers included Cre8, Ken Oak Band, Tatum Jones, and the ever popular Far East Movement.
The evening started off with mingling and food. Reunited friends embraced each other, guys too cool to give a real hug gave each other a pat on the back. People in orange staff shirts ran around frantically setting up but surprisingly still managed to remain cordial and hospitable to guests.
When the concert officially commenced, everyone gathered on the steps of the amphitheater- cameras out, and eagerly awaiting the celebrity appearances. Host Paul Kim, or PK, as he proudly dubbed himself, entertained the audience during transitions with humorous accounts of his love-struck childhood and other hilarious tales.
Cre8, the first performance, truly “rocked” the audience with their oldies songs and “shredding” guitar solos. The Ken Oak Band then juxtaposed the previous band with a more romantic, sentimental tune. The acoustic duo comprised of Ken Oak [on the cello], and Ed Gorski [on the guitar], was soulful and moving. Tatum Jones, comprised of Hans Cho, Michael H. Lee, and Justin Fong, followed with a combination of R&B songs, perfectly pitched a cappela songs, and beat box. Lastly, but certainly not least, came Far East Movement. Far East Movement finally broke the ice and got audience members to come forward and move to the beat.
The evening was concluded with Far East Movement's famous song, Lowrider, and a sincere thank you from Young Nak church's senior pastor, Michael Lee.
The first of three concerts was a huge success which left audience members satisfied and running to get autographs and pictures with the performers. The event was truly inspirational, and as James Roh from Far East Movement said, “We have a community, and we have unity. Not just Koreans. Not just Christians. Its everybody.”
