Belle and Pacino is Mary and Herod

Al Pacino is in negotiations to star as King Herod in the new film "Mary, Mother of Christ" Unlike the traditional Nativity story, this project is described as a female empowerment movie that explores Mary's youth, young love, her new life as a mother, and the triumph over King Herod's horrendous reign.

Camilla Belle will star as the titular character with Jonathan Rhys Meyers playing the dual roles of Gabriel and Lucifer. Peter O'Toole will play Symeon who meets Mary and her family shortly after the birth of baby Jesus.

Alejandro Agresti(Valentin, The Lake House) will direct with a script by Barbara Nicolosi and Benedict Fitzgerald(The Passion of the Christ)in Morocco this May for an expected release date of April 2nd, 2010 to coincide with Good Friday.
