Burn After Reading

ImageThe box office has been struggling as of late but showed signs of making a comeback last weekend largely due to the star studded film, the Coen brothers’ “Burn After Reading”. This film stars probably the two biggest movie stars in the world in the form of Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Not only do they have their stars, but they are surrounded by some high quality actors in Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, and J.K. Simmons to name a few. This film is very enjoyable and entertaining.

Chad Feldheimer (Brad Pitt) and Linda Litzke (Frances McDormand) work at a gym and they find a CD with CIA material in it. They discover it belongs to Osbourne Cox (John Malkovich) and decide to blackmail him for money. This serves as the main plot but there are many different subplots, which are very interesting and fun. All these plots are connected by the desire of Linda Litzke’s insecurities and desire to change the way she looks through expensive surgeries.

There are so many lessons to be learned in this film. One of those lessons is greed. It was greed that caused the events of the film to happen. To get the money, people had to break many rules and paid a hefty price for the money needed. Which also leads to the next lesson, which is our physical appearance. Many times we look at ourselves and find a need to change. We are not satisfied with our features. God made us in His own image and we find ourselves bickering and wanting change.  If we can be satisfied with the gifts we have and be happy with the way we look, life becomes a lot easier and all the types of stress that is portrayed in this film can be avoided.Image

I really recommend watching this film because not only is it a fun movie, but also it has a great story to tell. The performance of Brad Pitt will most likely have you talking after the movie. He was great in the film providing many laughs. This also goes with most of the cast. The humor is very awkward and sometimes even crude. Also there are some surprises here and there that lead me to suggest caution in watching this film because there is some adult content material as it is rated R.
