TOP NEWS: The King of Pop is Dead

ImageThe King of Pop is dead. Michael Jackson, born on August 29, 1958, was pronounced dead at UCLA’s hospital after suffering a heart attack inside his home. He was 50 years old.

Every tweet, every status update, every blog, every news organization, and every radio station updated their profiles and news feeds on Thursday, June 25 beginning 3pm to turn speculation and disbelief into confirmation.

TMZ first reported death. Radio stations picked up the news. Twitter went into overcapacity. Major news sources finally confirmed. And every provided source of information went into overload.

This sudden wave of Michael Jackson craze reflects how much of an impact MJ has had on world culture the past 25 plus years. He set the foundation for pop artists to follow suit, and he set the caliber of skill extremely high. Very few artists have come close to the level he has reached with his dancing and music.

It’s an unfortunate ending to a life so praised by the world, especially when he was going to kick off another tour starting July 8.

What do we as fans do now?

The only thing we can do—sit back and enjoy the music and art that Michael Jackson has shared with us starting from his early days in the Jackson 5.

Last words to Michael Jackson: Michael, even though you are no longer living here on this earth, your music will live on forever. Thank you for working so hard to try to perfect the gift that God has given you. You are truly legendary.
