Korean clergywomen share their stories of overcoming cultural and gender barriers in a book, “The Holy Seed of Calling: Korean-American Clergywomen’s Journey Toward Ordination.” Rev. Myungim Kim, president of the National Association of Korean-American United Methodist Clergywomen says, “One common thread you’ll hear is the courage it took for these women to leave their home countries and come to America to preach the gospel.” She anticipates the day when a Korean clergywoman will become a United Methodist bishop. // N. Korea in Turmoil as Power Transfer Possible
In the midst of currency reform and persecutions of Christians, North Korea may be undergoing a shift in power as Kim Jong-Il’s third son is rumored to be handed over ruling charge soon. Open Doors World Watch List has already placed North Korea as the number one persecutor of Christians. // Americans Question Who Makes a Family
A telephone survey of more than 800 people, found that America’s definition of family is changing. Americans were almost equally divided on the issue of same-sex marriage. They also found an 11 percent decline in the number of people who define family as husband and wife. However, the Census Bureau’s definition of "family" remains traditional: "A family is a group of two people or more related by birth, marriage, or adoption and residing together." Original article.

// IHOP (the pancake-maker) sues IHOP (the prayer center) over trademark
The famous IHOP (pancake) restaurant based in Glendale, California filed a suit last week against IHOP (prayer) based in Kansas City for trademark dilution and infringement. The lawsuit accuses the church mission of adopting the name, International House of Prayer, knowing it would be abbreviated IHOP in the intent to misappropriate fame and notoriety of the food chain. Pancake spokesman Patrick Lenow said suit was filed only after the church mission refused repeated requests to stop using the trademark. Original article.

// Florida pastor calls off Quran burning
Leading up to the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Florida pastor Rev. Terry Jones, gave mixed messages of whether he would go ahead with the “Burn a Quran Day.” Jones told the press on Saturday that he no longer intended to do so. “Not today, not ever.” In another article, Jones commented that the intention of the event was to make a statement of how certain aspects of Islam can lead to acts of violence.
