// Corrections officers lean on faith, each other to handle prisoners, stress
In Buena Vista, a group of correctional officers at a prison attend twice-monthly for a “Corrections Staff Fellowship” in where they pray, read Scriptures and talk about not judging prisoners. Pete Hoppins founded the chapter in Buena Vista. Hoppins says about 45 parole and correctional officers attend gatherings at his home where he cooks breakfast and where participants talk about using Christian ideals in dealing with work conflicts and related stresses at home. A Supreme Court ruling this week regarding the Mojave Desert cross, though met with opposition because of its seemingly endorsing of religion, is thought to set the precedence of religious cases in the future. Although the court ruled that the cross is allowed to stay on display, saying that it is not “an unconstitutional mixing of church and state,” newer judge, Justice Sonya Sotomayor, voted against the display of the cross, which may be a good indicator in the future of similar cases. Jennifer Knapp, a Christian musician announced this month that she is gay. On her appearance during Larry King Live last week, Knapp questioned the authenticity of Bible translations on the issue of homosexuality and explains, “I think there is plenty of evidence in my exploration of my faith through the sacred text of the Holy Bible that I have definitely recognized that we are somewhat at the handicap of our own interpretation.” Original article.

// Survey: Most young people are lost despite Christian label
A new study conducted on 1,200 American teens and young adult Christians showed that only 15 percent expressed deep commitment to their relationship with Christ. The study focused on what is known as the Millennial Christian, young people born between the year 1980 and 1991. Among the Millennials, three out of four said that they were more spiritual than religious. Another study revealed that only a quarter of its participants saw the Bible as inerrant. Original article.
