Sound Engineering Workshop
August 28, 2008 – Decibels, hertz, frequency, transducer, and mixer. All terms that did not have a clear definition to before the Sound Engineering workshop. Stephen Lee conducted the workshop over a four day period (August 14,15, 21 and 28), two of them being in the classroom learning these terms and the other two gaining hands on experience. In the classroom, the KAC Media staff was lectured on the theory of sound and other important scientific elements to provide the foundation to a better sound engineer. Working in the Control Room while getting hands on experience, the staff learned how the monstrous mixer worked in conjunction with the recording process, isolation booth, and the studio itself. The theories learned in the classroom were put into practice when the staff completed a renovation project involving the ISO booth where special foam was installed on to the walls for clearer voiceovers and music recordings.
“I have so much more respect for this creative medium. I listen to music differently now! And - I also now know the importance of ear plugs :) Stephen - you broke it down in such an entertaining and engaging way. I couldn't get enough. ;)”
